[EN] ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO 2016

Greeting

A new art fair ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO will be held in Park Hotel Tokyo, a renowned art-themed hotel located in Shiodome on the weekend of March 12 – 13, 2016. (A private viewing will be held on Friday, March 11). This event is organized by Art Osaka which is one of the biggest hotel-based art fairs in Japan for the past 13 years, and specializes in contemporary art.

In recent years, post-1945 contemporary art in Japan was under the spotlight in both art markets and the academia, as exhibitions of Gutai and Mono-ha art movements were presented in major museums and galleries in Europe and America.

In response to this expanding interest, we will attempt to present artworks within the framework of both the past and the future of Japanese contemporary art in this art fair. Established galleries that laid the foundation of the Japanese art scene will present important artists and their artworks through the lens of the past; while the newer galleries will be presenting upcoming artists and artworks that help us look into the future of the Japanese art scene.

Each of the 39 participating galleries (Tokyo-based: 15, Non-Tokyo-based: 22, International: 2) has their own unique aesthetic and approach towards showcasing their artists and artworks. We will also be presenting galleries that have rarely participated in other art fairs.

The artworks will be displayed in the hotel rooms, and guests are welcome to purchase any works if they wish to. We hope that this art fair will be a great opportunity for both seasoned art collectors and newcomers to encounter various artworks and discover something special for themselves.
