Gentaro Komaki
Spring livertines No.3
ROOM #2608
Nowadays the re-evaluation of post-war Japanese avant-garde art is remarkable. Gentaro Komaki (1906~1989, Kyoto) is one of the most unique and idiosyncratic artists among them. As a pioneer of Japanese Surrealist painting, many of his works are housed in the public museums such as the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo and Kyoto. Galerie Miyawaki had supported Komaki’s creative activities for many years in Kyoto. On the other hand, Naoki Nishiwaki (1977~, Osaka) is an up and coming artist who successfully made a solo show debut at Galerie Miyawaki in April 2016. He weaves meticulously elaborated images by ballpoint pens. Coexistence of obsessively repeated motifs and charming graphic construction is attractive. Galerie Miyawaki, who marks the 60th anniversary in the spring of 2018, has introduced, beyond the time, these two old and new genius artists who both express unique worlds by their astonishing artistic creativities.
